The German company Traviation GSE, which specializes in ground support equipment provides Malta International Airport in April 2022 with 12 new apron trolleys of the type travi ML.

The hand-guided apron trolleys were developed by Traviation GSE and approved for the airfield. Peter Henkst, managing director at Traviation GSE: “We are very pleased with this new cooperation. With more than 50,000 aircraft movements per year, the Malta International Airport is a perfect environment for the application of our apron trolley travi ML.”

In Germany, the Traviation GSE apron trolleys are already used at the airports Hamburg and Paderborn / Lippstadt. The hand-guided apron trolleys are specially designed for the storage of apron equipment. Brackets for chocks, traffic cones, barrier tapes and FOD containers ensure that everything is always close at hand in its place.

With a length of only 1.33 meters, the travi ML is compact and handy for daily employment on the apron. Robustly designed, the travi ML itself weighs only 120 kilogram, but with a payload of 150 kilogram it can take plenty of ground support equipment. Castors and the height-adjustable handle with brake nevertheless ensure optimum mobility on the apron even in one-man operation.

Traviation GSE apron vehicles successfully in use in Malta

Small wagon, big impact

In April 2022, Traviation GSE equipped Malta International Airport with 12 new apron vehicles of the TRAVI ML type. Just over a year later, it’s time for an initial positive interim assessment from Joe Bugeja, General Manager Malta International Airport: “We are happy to note that our ground teams have all had very favorable comments regarding the units, as it saves time by not having to carry heavy chocks to/from the aircraft. Additionally, the storage and staging aspect have also helped as we have placed a unit on each of the aircraft stands – having all necessary GSE sores neatly in one location is also great sight for inbound aircraft crew.”
